Piola
Marset | Christophe Mathieu
The Piola collection is about imitating the fluidity of infinite movement, in search of a balance between the diffusion of light and the creation of shadows.
A central metal column holds more than 16 inches of spiraling, laminated band, enveloping, protecting, and sifting the light for beauty and comfort. Several different types of light coexist here: direct downward light, indirect reflected light, and a light that sneaks between the edges of the spiral, illuminating the fixture itself with a warm, homey glow.

Marset
Marset was established in 1942 as a family business, not making lighting, but as a foundry. That foundation in casting metals did eventually segue into lighting design, however, with Francisco Marset formally establishing Marset Illuminacion in 1965.
The decades spent experimenting with and molding metal translated well into the contemporary lighting industry: manipulating all kinds of materials to create unexpected, atmospheric lighting effects.
Designer
Christophe Mathieu
His name is French and he was born in Germany, but his Spanish accent points to the Canary Islands, where he grew up. He reached Barcelona in the mid-1980’s to finish his degree in interior design. Soon afterward he headed to Milan, where he discovered industrial design collaborating with the architect Marco Zanuso jr. in the development of products for companies such as De Padova, Menphis and Driade; the architects Roberto Menghi y Giulio Crespi; the industrial designer Sergio Coppola and the architect Antonio Zanuso in the prize-winning project for the Piazza della Republica. His time in Milan had a profound effect on him.
Having lived in Barcelona for years now, he is one of Marset’s veteran designers and has created several successful products for the company.
